Obituary of Theta Bennett-Mathis

Mrs. Theta Rosalie Bennett-Mathis of Utica, NY, age 87, laid asleep in death on Thursday, July 17, 2014, after a long illness, surrounded by her family. Born July 6, 1928 in Fitzgerald, GA. to Jannie Jones and Ernest Evans. On November 27, 1947 she married Amos Eugene Bennett (deceased). Rosalie was known for skills as a hairdresser. She was a foster parent for many years. She will always be remembered for her love for people. On April 16, 1983 she married M.C. Mathis (deceased). She shared a special relationship with his children, Dorothy Robinson, George (Sandra) Gray, Theodore Gray (deceased), Classie (Ormond) Ross, Eveleana, Gertrude, Georgianna Mathis, Ezell Jones, all of Utica and Mary Hinkson of Syracuse. She began to study the bible in 1955 and on July 18, 1958 at Yankee Stadium she dedicate her life to Jehovah. Rosalie was known for her gardening. She loved collard greens and corn! She is survived by Jeannette Gottshall (Charles), Surfside Beach, SC; Amos Eugene Bennett, Jr.; Berlinda Robinson (Willie Glenn), Lilburn, GA; Stephen Bennett (Kathy), Poughkeepsie, NY. Her son Robert Lee Bennett preceded Rosalie in death. She is survived by her 14 grand-children: Andrea Williams, Michael Robinson, Ericka Williams, Lavaughn Bennett, Michelle Seabrook, Christopher Bennett, Monicka Robinson, Robert Lee Bennett, Jr., Precious Ashynna Star Bennett, Shaiqueeiha Griffin, Lahiqueeiha Griffin, Stefvonita Bennett, Stephen Bennett, Jr., and Gregory Williams. Rosalie is survived by 25 great grand-children: Jallyssa Oxendine-Williams, Kya Craft-Williams, Nazhee Riviera, Jordan Robinson, Khiree Seabrook, Makiyah Rose, Shia Bennett, Jadon Bennett, Casenya Bennett, Nariah, MiQueen, Zachary Lyons, Zalif, Rason Bennett, A'mya Seabrook, Carter, Seraj Bennett, Ni'sai, Andrew, Carmen, Richard II, Cristofer, Aliyah and Hason Williams. Beloved nieces Norma Lee Robinson of Buffalo, NY. and Ethelrine Hamilton of Atlanta, GA.; and nephews David U. Robinson of Buffalo, NY and Johnny Robertson of El Paso, TX. Beloved cousins Cora Lee Wilson and Pamela Wilson. Sister-in-law Mrs. Daisy Bell Robertson. Beloved caregiver and cousin Linda York, Shanice White. Up until the end of her life, she was a faithful, active member of the Central Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. She leaves behind a host of kind and loving friends. Viewing hours will be on July 27 between 6 - 8 pm at T.Revels-Gibson Funeral Home, 144 Eagle Street, Utica, NY. Funeral Services will take place on July 28 at 2pm at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses, Central Congregation, 585 Trenton Road, Utica, NY 13501.
