Obituary of Norman Hill

Mr. Norman Hill, of Utica, passed away peacefully January 28, 2014, in the St. Luke's Home. He was born August 27, 1925, in Eufaula, AL, to the late Mrs. Eddie C. Hightower. After graduating from High School, he entered the U.S. Air Force serving three years. After his discharge, he relocated to Utica to marry his childhood sweetheart, Alberta Huff; to this union, two daughters were born; Norma Jean and Lillian. Norman was a devoted husband and father to his family. Mr. Hill was employed as a Supervisory Police Officer at Griffiss Air Force Base for thirty years and retired in 1985. He was the first African American to establish a Real Estate practice in Utica after successsfully completing Real Estate studies at Utica College and MVCC and passing the State Broker's License examination. Mr. Hill was a member of St. Paul's Baptist Church for many years, serving in many capacities. He was active in the Utica community, serving as president of the Oneida County NAACP, and on the Board of the Cosmopolitan Center and the Utica Neighborhood Housing Services. He co-founded the ALAGA club, a community service organization whose mission was to recognize and award, on a yearly basis, children un the Cornhill community for their academic achievements. Mr. Hill leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of sixty seven years, Alberta Hill and his daughters, Norma Jean and Lillian, church family, many other relatives and friends. Mr. Hill's family extends heartfelt gratitude and thanks to the staff of Barton North of the St. Luke's Home for their great care and compassion to Mr. Hill and his family. Friends may call on Monday, February 3, 2014, from 11:00 am until the 12:00 noon funeral service at St. Paul's Baptist Church 219 Leah St. Utica.
