Obituary of Elena Herrera-Mitchell
Please share a memory of Elena to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Elena Herrera-Mitchell, 59 of Utica, NY was called home to be with the Lord on November 3, 2022.
Elena Mitchell was born to Monte Herrera and Carmen Rivas on December 17, 1962, raised and educated in Los Angeles, CA. As an adult Elena would spend time living in Wichita, Kansas and eventually relocated and settled in the Utica, NY area.
Later in life, Elena met and married Arthur Mitchell and from this union were daughters: Samantha Mitchell and Shimeen Bell. Prior to this marriage, she had five daughters and two sons.
Family was very important which is why Elena dedicated her married life as a “stay-at-home” mother. There was never a time when family and friends could not reach out and know that she would be there – it did not matter the day or time. She loved her oldies music, as a child, her mother was her favorite dance partner, you would often find them dancing around the house. As an adult she was just as fond of her music as ever before and if your ever wanted your pride put in check in a game of Spades, Elena was the woman for the job! An avid watcher of horror type films, paranormal and murder mystery television shows you would be able to catch her watching them year-round, the month of October wasn’t enough! As a grandmother she loved spending time and making memories with her grandchildren.
Elena leaves to cherish her memories: her children, Anita Rios, Ana-Maria Garcia Gonzales, Angela Valasquez, Enrique Scribner, Victor Scribner, Cecilia Scribner Wise, Lydia Nevels, Samantha Mitchell and stepdaughter Shimeen Bell. Twenty beautiful grandchildren; brother Aaron Griego; sisters Susie Macias, Yvonne M. Griego Ducre and Rachel Griego and a host of family and friends.
Elena is predeceased by her parents Monte and Carmen. Her older sister Apolonia C. Herrera Olivares, and her younger brother Tony Rivas and her loving husband of what would have been 22 years of marriage, Arthur Mitchell.
The family would like to sincerely thank all those who have expressed sympathy during this time of grief. Though the time with us may no longer be present the love is never ending
