Obituary of Joyce Brenda Hagood
Please share a memory of Joyce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Joyce Brenda Hagood, 65 of Utica, NY was called home by the Lord on August 18, 2022.
Joyce Brenda Hagood, the daughter of Richard Johnny Hagood and Lelabell Sikes was born on February 21, 1957 in Harlem, NY. Schooled in the New York City educational system, this is where she found a love of music and dancing. After leaving school she became involved in numerous “NYC” activities, spending time with friends and working toward a more positive future.
Joyce relocated to Utica, NY in 2018 to be closer to her daughter Kelly and the grandchildren. She became a member of the Johnson Park Community where she wore many hats cooking, counseling, sharing stories and being a friend to all. Everyone that she had the pleasure to interact with always seemed to walk away with a smile on their face. She was the perfect example of life will never get you down when you believe in yourself and most importantly in the Lord.
Joyce was also the “point” person when it came to her family – the Matriarch. Mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend. Could always be counted on when someone was in need or lending a hand or a shoulder or an ear. Her presence in the Johnson Park Community will most definitely leave a void in all who had the pleasure to enjoy her company.
Joyce leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Kelly (Utica, NY), sons Quintin (Queens, NY), George (Queens, NY), Bruce (Rochester) and Dominic (NY); sisters Linda Haygood (Bklyn, NY) and Johnetta Campbell (New Jersey) and brother Richard Andra (Shalik)Hagood (Bronx, NY); aunts: Doreen Sikes (Florida) and Annie Jones (NYC); uncles Steven Sikes (Florida) and Marvin Sikes (Florida); special friends, Rev. Meier and Ms. Wilson; as well as grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Joyce was predeceased in death by her parents Richard Johnny Hagood and Lelabell Sikes, son Robert Hagood, sister Rita Hagood and brother Ronnie Hagood.
The family expresses their sincere gratitude and appreciation to all family, friends and the community for their support and many blessings during this time of grief.
