Obituary of Thelma Jean Monroe
Thelma Jean Monroe, 85 of Utica, NY was called home on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 with 2 generations of her family at her side.
Thelma J. Monroe, was born on December 18, 1932 in Dublin, GA to Luther Hurst. She was educated in Dublin, GA and relocated to Camden, NJ and finally to Utica, NY in 1960.
Thelma met and married Jimmy Monroe in Dublin, GA and from this union was Elizabeth Bailey (Albany, NY); Norman (Margaurita) Monroe (Albany, NY); Clinton Monroe (Texas); and Ricky Monroe (New Jersey); grandchildren: James Bailey, (FL), Robert Bailey (GA), Anna Monroe (GA), Sarah Northrop, Sapphire Monroe and Zeus Monroe (NY) as well a host of additional grandchildren, nieces, nephews and special friends. "Mother's" 85 years has blessed many.
Thelma was predeceased by her son, Jimmy Lee Monroe and her father Luther Hurst.
Lovingly referred as "Mother" or "Thelma Jean", Thelma worked as an assistant at the Hotel Utica, until she retired and moved to Rome, NY with her family and then moved back with her family to Utica, NY. Upon her "time off" the most fun was to cook and feed one and all. Thelma also maintained her faith and upon her move to Utica, she joined "Free In Christ" (Utica, NY); First Tabernacle of Christ in God (Rome, NY); and Holy Temple (Utica, NY).
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at T. Revels-Gibson Funeral Home, 144 Eagle Street, Utica, NY 13501 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm and funeral service will be held on Friday, December 29, 2017 at T. Revels-Gibson Funeral Home at 5:00 pm. Interment will be held at the family's discretion at a private and later time.
