Obituary of Donald Stafford McCain
Donald Stafford McCain, 68 of Utica, NY was born on October 17, 1948 to the late Theordore and Katie (McNeely) McCain in the Bronx, NY. Donald was called home on July 31, 2017 with his family at his side.
Donald moved as a pre-teen to Manhattan where he was educated and received his diploma. Upon graduation, he became employed with the NYC Transit Authority, retiring from that position, Donald relocated to Utica, NY and continued his career as a long distance bus driver, he was last employed by Birnie Bus Service and then he turned his key off to enjoy his time as a “retired” person.
Donald, was a person who enjoyed people and was always there when someone was in need. He was never to busy to offer his help or hand or advice. A man of music, he loved to play the trumpet and when he did sing, he sang in a baritone voice, which he considered a gift from the Lord. Donald was also well versed in the scripture, knowing God as his “Savior and Redeemer”. Teaching was a true joy to him, especially teaching Sunday school, giving a foundation of faith to our youth. He always said, “To know God is to be loved by God.”
Donald leaves behind to cherish his memories, his wife: Lenora McCain; daughter Donnique McCain (Fl); and son Michael McCain (NJ); brothers: Theodore McCain (GA) and Alonzo McCain (Utica); sister: Yolanda Bell (Fl) and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. Special friends who have been with him through thick and thin, Anthony & Linda Morrison and family, as well as Evelyn Loretta Johnson (Utica). Donald and Lenora were foster parents for many years, and the children they fostered and raised as their own now have children of their own, leaving behind grandchildren to honor his memory.
Donald was predeceased by his stepdaughter Trelawni (Hodges) Donat (NJ), brother Herman McCain (NY) and his parents Theodore & Katie McCain (GA).
The family would like to acknowledge their sincere appreciation and gratitude to all those who have extended their sympathies, calls and visits.
