Obituary of Jennie Odetta Dugger

Mrs. Jennie Odetta Johnson Dugger (Jennie from the Block), was born on December 8, 1965 in New York City, to the late Bryant Bethel and Ruby Johnson. Jennie departed this life on May 12, 2017 in Utica, New York.

Jennie grew up in the Bronx, NY with her mother and siblings, with a love to cook and sing. Growing up surrounded by music, she had a true passion to sing.  She could have been compared to Barbara Streisand or Donna Summer. Jennie was a tough cookie, who gave it as well as she took it. In the 90’s, she moved to upstate NY with the hope of being reunited with her children,  She met and married her husband Tommie Dugger once she settled in Utica, NY.  Jennie loved cooking on the grill and would feed anyone who passed by.  She would always open her home to someone in need.

Jennie is survived by her husband Tommie Dugger; seven daughters: Karyn Griffith, Asia Griffith, Jennifer Griffith, Christin Griffith, Tori Griffith, Kyra Leigh Jackson and Tommika Dugger; one son: Hassan Griffith; three grandchildren Keyanni Marie, Theophilus Micheal and Savannah Rose; six sisters: Karen Johnson Stephen, Phyllis Johnson, Tenyetta Johnson, Jonnique McKinney, Madupe’ Hinton, Maunda Bethel; two brothers: Brian Johnson and Craig Johnson; one sister-in-law: Jeneca Lorice and a whole host of nieces and nephews.

We love you Jennie!  You will be missed by all who knew you!

Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 27, 2017 from 1:00 - 2:00 pm at T. Revels-Gibson Funeral Home, 144 Eagle Street, Utica, NY 13501 with funeral service to immediately follow at 2:00 pm.  Reverend Arthur Gary to officiate.
