Mr. Rayford Patterson was called to eternal rest on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Faxton St. Luke’s Hospital at the age of Seventy-Nine.
Rayford was born on September 29, 1937 in Gaffney, South Carolina, Cherokee County to Marcellous and Eloise Lipscomb Patterson. Mr. Patterson was educated and graduated from Dunbar High School in East Spenser, North Carolina in 1955. He came to Utica, New York in 1956 and was employed at Utica Boiler Corporation (Utica Radiator) for 43 years as an Assembler. Rayford was always known for his hard work and dedication to his job and family. In those 43 years of dedicated service he only missed five days.
Mr. Patterson married Jessie Mae Patterson in 1971, to that union were one daughter and five sons. Daughter: Cheryl Victoria Patterson and sons: Billy C. Johnson, Thomas Ray Patterson, Nathaniel Wayne Patterson, John Calhoun Patterson and Eric Patterson.
Mr. Patterson leaves to cherish his memory four children, Billy C. Johnson, Utica, New York; Thomas Ray Patterson, Amsterdam New York; Cheryl Victoria Patterson, Baltimore, Maryland and Eric Patterson (Angela), Clay New York; six grandchildren, Cherie Johnson-Foster, Utica, New York, Tonya Michelle Graham, Charlotte, North Carolina, Thomas Traglia, Whitesboro, New York, Corey Ricks, Baltimore, Maryland, Elijah Patterson, Clay, New York and Isaiah Patterson, Clay, New York; one sister, Willie Mary Davis, Winston-Salem, North Carolina; many great-grand children, nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
Mr. Patterson was preceded in death by his parents, Marcellous and Eloise Lipscomb Patterson; one brother Eugene Patterson, one sister Francis Patterson and other siblings and his sons Nathaniel Wayne and John Calhoun Patterson.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016, 5:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. at T. Revels-Gibson Funeral Home, 144 Eagle Street, Utica, New York 13501, (315) 732-2016.
Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 18, 2016, 11:00 A.M. at Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church, 1108 Court Street, Utica, New York 13502, (315) 724-7967; officiating is Reverend James Jackson.
