Obituary of Gertrude Gilmore

Please share a memory of Gertrude to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ms. Gertrude “Gert” Gilmore, born on July 13, 1943, to the late Billy and Henrietta (Law) Gilmore, in Marked Tree, Arkansas, where she received her primary education. Gert was admitted to St. Elizabeth's Medical Center on Monday, September 26, 2016 with her family at her side. The Lord called her home on Friday, October 7, 2016, to leave presence of her family as they sat with her and enter into the Presence and Peace of her Lord, to live her new life eternally. Gert was a very dedicated and loving mother. She loved her daughters Kiralynn Gilmore and Victoria Anita Canty with all she had. Gert began her career at Bonide Products, Inc. and then transitioned to Masonic Home as a C.N.A., (until her disability), made her proud to support her family. As well as being a wonderful mother, she was a beautiful grandmother and great-grandmother to Jasmine (who she raised as her own), Shamel, Taurean, Jarvis, Yanique(Carlos), Ja'Sona, Nevaeh, and great-grandchildren Jarvell, Jeremiah and Shamel Jr. She was also an attentive sister to her brother Mr. Fredlee and sister-in-law, Dorothy Ann Gilmore whom she loved so much, calling them early every morning that her body allowed her to do. Besides her children and grands, Gert was a lady blessed to have many, many, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and even more blessed as to have great-great nieces and nephews, whom she loved and cared for, and anyone who called her “Aunt” or “Grandma” was loved just the same. If that isn't enough, she was also a good listener and cook, always making sure everybody had something to eat. She could throw together a meal out of nowhere and boy, could she make a mean “Butterroll”! Gertrude loved the Lord with every beat of her heart. When she was able to drive herself to church, she would be at Sunday School almost an hour early. Eventually, she became the Assistant Mother of the Church, working on the Mother's Board under the Head of Mother Louise Frazier, whom she thought the world of. Along with everyone mentioned to celebrate her life, she leaves a host relatives in the Gilmore, Ford, Kings and Clark families. She shared a special bond with Barney Carter, the father of her children, very special friends Rosetta Davis, Doris Miles, Claresa Williams, Alice Ezell and her lifelong best friend, Methena Middlebrooks Gray, and many more family and friends too numerous to name. But you know who you are and that she loved you. She was predeceased by many siblings, but her closest ones, sisters Georgia and Eddie King, Florence and Willie James Clark whom she cherished and missed a lot. Gert's bright smile and cheery attitude will truly be missed but we know she loved the Lord with everything she had and she is smiling and singing right now in His presence. Services will be held on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Friendship Baptist Church, 1004 Albany Street, Utica, NY 13501, officiated by Reverend March. Visitation will be held from 11:00 - 12:00 pm with the funeral service to immediately follow. Ms. Gertrude Gilmore will be interred at New Forest Cemetery.
