Deola was born on November 29, 1922 in Kingstree, South Carolina to Silas and Lou P. Singletary, the 3rd of 8 children; Pearl, Jacob, Deola, Nathaniel (Joe), Dorothy, Alberta, McKeever and Mildred. Deola's presence will be missed and cherished by two sisters: Alberta McLaurine (Indianapolis, IN) and Mildred (Donald) Rice of Utica, NY. Six children: three sons: Kenneth (Becky) Washington of Ilion, ; Alphonso (Deborah) Washington of Clinton, NY; Elliot Washington and special friend Zakair of Utica, NY; three daughters: Betty (Clyde) Clemmons of Utica, NY; Joyce (Andre) Arthur of Florence, SC and Sharon James (Ernest "Mo") Adams of Utica, NY. Grandchildren: Dexter Washington, Tammy Hatchett, Marquise Elliot, Heather Bridges, Sonya Washington, Maurice Jones, Denise Jackson, Terrance Jones, Tynetta Bradley, Eunice Elliot, Shakair Elliot, Ayisha Elliot, Willis ("Bam") Dixon, Jr., Daniel ("Tiny") Coleman III, Daphnie Hoyle, Calvin K. Hoyle, Lisa Harvey, David Arthur, Derrick D. Washington, Derrick Cash, Andre' Washington, Brie King Washington, Danielle Johnson, Jonathan Stephens, Michael Stephens, Shirelle Conwell, Darnell Washington, Dion James, Akoya Adams, Ernest Adams and a host of great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. Deola was predeceased by her husband, George Washington; daughters: Katoria Washington and Patricia Coleman; sons: DeVieny Harold and Van Dyke Washington. Deola's Journey Through Life... Educated and married in Kingstree, SC., later moved to NYC, where she founded the "TRUTH" in 1952. After studying the bible for many years, Deola was baptized and became one of (Jehovah's Witnesses) and everyone who knew her knows the rest of the story. Viewing services will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 from 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm at T. Revels-Gibson Funeral Home. A 1:00 pm Memorial Service will be held on Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Kingdom Hall, 585 Trenton Road, Utica, NY 13502. Acknowledgments... The Washington family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to ALL who helped to make our grief over the passing of our mother a little less painful. We thank you for the support, love, concerns, thoughts, visits, calls, gifts, hugs, words of encouragement and strength. And most of all, for your many prayers. A Very Special and Sincere Appreciation to our Mother's Medical Staff... Our mom was so special to us and both the staff at St. Luke's and also at the Pines treated her as if she was their own mother, thank you! The Washington family wishes to express a "special thank you to Dr. Dhdabar, St. Luke's AC2 Unit and the special nurses and aids at the Pines at Utica. Thank you all for a job WELL DONE!!!!
