Obituary of SA Johnson

SA Freeman Johnson departed this life and joined her heavenly family on January 25, 2016. She was born on October 7, 1931in Abberville, Alabama to the late George and Blessie Gordon Freeman. Her husband, William Rufus Johnson, predeceased her on April 27, 2015. At an early age, SA joined the church and accepted Christ into her life. She was baptized at Spring Hill Baptist Church in Abberville, Alabama. At age 18, SA joined her siblings in Utica, NY and then joined Hope Chapel AME Zion Church and served as a member of the Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society. She worked as a domestic housekeeper for over 50 years, pursuing her work with the dignity and pride throughout her career and was highly regarded by many families who had employed her. SA was married to Fred Suitt, to that union was born a son, Gregory. In 1999, she married William Rufus Johnson. She had a very cheerful sprit, was a sharp dresser and had a joy for life and laughter was her best medicine. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her daughter: Annie Rose Simmons (Buffalo,, NY); son: Gregory (Lisa) Suitt (Layton, UT); grandchildren: Todd and Monica Simmons, Kevin (Wendy) Simmons, Lisa Simmons (all of Buffalo, NY). Tasha Suitt (Indiana, IN); Chante Suitt (Layton, UT); great grandchildren: Cameron Renfroe, Kiarra, Mariah and Devin Simmons; Andre’ Simmons; Jav’ion Suitt, Jonathan Jackson and stepson: Terry Johnson. SA was predeceased by 5 sisters: Carrie Warmack, Annie Bell Lynn, Georgia Mae Bell, Mamie Thomas and Alberta Baker; 4 brothers: Freddie, Bernie, Albert and Willie James Freeman. A celebration of SA’s life will take place on February 1, 2016 at Hope Chapel AME Zion Church, 751 South Street. Viewing will be at 11am with service immediately following at 12pm.
